Here are some of the issues and illnesses of hair loss that clients have

Client's who suffer from trichotillomania has strong compulsion to pull hair out from the head or body resulting in noticeable bald patches. It goes far beyond just a ‘habit.’ Many clients with this condition won’t even come in for help because they don’t want anyone to know.

For trichotillomania sufferers, the hair integration system can act as a barrier; making it very difficult to pull out natural hair. In that way, it can help break the habit. We have seen cases where, after about 8-10 months, clients have managed to grow all their hair back to a reasonable length and stop using any hair loss replacement system when they never believed that this would be possible. Some clients also receive CBT therapy to help them manage their hair pulling.

Telogen Effluvium

Telogen Effluvium is a form of Alopecia that causes excessive hair shedding. Normally, an average person sheds up to 150 hairs each day, but a person who suffers from Telogen Effluvium might shed thousands of hairs every day.

Such dramatic and sudden hair loss can be very upsetting, and some people can lose up to 70% of their hair within days.

The acute form of the condition can last up to 6 months, but the chronic form of Telogen Effluvium can last much longer. In these cases, the hair can take much longer to recover, and it might only recover once the underlying cause of the condition is addressed.

When can it occur?

Telogen effluvium occurs during one of the hair's growth stages known as the telogen phase. This is a ‘resting period’ for the hair, which lasts for 2-4 months. The shedding phase of the hair’s growth cycle usually doesn’t happen until after the telogen phase, but with Telogen Effluvium, the cycle can go out of sync, and the hair starts to shed before it should.

What causes Telogen Effluvium?

There are several possible causes of Telogen Effluvium, from stress and poor diet, to surgery, trauma and even child birth. The excess hair shedding usually begins within 1-3 months after the event that triggers it. This is because when the trigger occurs, the hair follicle will enter the telogen (resting) phase before falling out, and the follicle will have a new hair following behind waiting to regrow.

We always recommend visiting a trichologist before seeking a more permanent hair replacement. We have a registrerd trichologist within our team at Capelli hair loss solutions UK.

Alopecia is a common condition that can cause hair loss. There are many different types of Alopecia, ranging from those which cause small patches of hair to shed, to those that cause complete hair loss.

Some of the most common types of Alopecia are:

Alopecia Areata

This causes hair loss in patches and it can occur anywhere on the body.

Alopecia Totalis

This is the total loss of hair on the scalp.

Cicatricial Alopecia (scarring Alopecia)

This condition destroys the hair follicles, which are replaced by scar tissue, and this causes permanent hair loss.

We advise every client that they should visit our Trichology's in our clinic before opting for permanent

hair replacements

What causes Alopecia?

Alopecia is an autoimmune condition. When you have an autoimmune disease, your immune system attacks your own body, and in the case of Alopecia, it’s the hair follicles that are attacked.

For women, Alopecia can be very distressing. Sometimes hair loss can happen gradually, and in some cases, complete hair loss can occur within a week.
